782 The Clash - Give 'Em Enough Rope (1978)
Studio Album - Punk
About the Act:
The Clash were formed as a punk band in 1976, in London, and morphed into a new wave band, and then into a band that embraced Reggae, Dub, Ska, Funk, Rockabilly, Gospel, Jazz and many other things. After some fall-out of members they stopped being a band in 1986. In ten years they had established themselves as one of the most significant bands of the era, gathering critical and commercial success with six studio albums.
The Classic line-up was Joe Strummer on lead vocals and guitar, Mick Jones of lead guitar, Paul Simonon on bass and Topper Headon on drums.
About the Album:
This was the band's second album, the first with Topper on drums. It is a Punk album.
My History with this Album:

Review:
Good punk is immediate, simple, energetic, ironic and disrespectful. This album does all of those things, although maybe not as energetically as some punk. Musically, it's quite accessible, you could even think of it as pop punk. Musically, it's well enough played, and Topper on drums is a high point. The songs are what you would expect from one of teh founding bands of the British Punk movement, disaffected youth, ironical looks at British life and so on. There's plenty of stuff about drugs and crime, all with a kind of "Jack the Lad" attitude. There is a bit of swearing. However, none of this was overdone to the point of putting me off. My favourite track is "Julie's Been Working for the Drug Squad".
If you like a good bit of punk, but are shy of the excesses of the Sex Pistols, this is a good choice. I enjoyed it.
